Baseball Two-Button Jerseys

Velzyn Wear makes custom two-button baseball jerseys for brands, distributors and teams that want a pullover jersey built to their own design and sold under their own label.

Ask ten coaches what they wear to practice and most will describe the same shirt: a pullover with a short placket, two buttons at the neck and contrast raglan sleeves. It is the working jersey of baseball. Easier to pull on than a full-button, simpler to sew, and far kinder to a big chest graphic.

Why brands choose two-button over full-button

A full-button jersey opens down the whole front. That looks right on game day, but it splits every front design in half at the placket. A two-button baseball jersey stops the opening a few inches below the collar, so the chest is one clean panel.

For a brand that sells on its artwork, that matters. A fade, a camo print or a large crest sits exactly as it was drawn. There are fewer sewing operations too, which is why a lot of lines start here and add a full-button game jersey later.

Designing for an unbroken chest

With the whole front free, you have choices a full-button jersey doesn't give you:

• Full-chest script or logo running straight across, with no gap at the buttons.
• Front numbers under the script or on the left chest — common on pullovers, awkward on button-fronts.
• All-over sublimated patterns that carry from the body into the sleeves without a break down the middle.

Raglan baseball jerseys: the classic look

Most two-button jerseys are cut with raglan sleeves. The sleeve runs in one piece from the cuff up to the collar, which gives the throwing arm more room and creates the diagonal seam everyone recognises. Put the sleeves in a contrast colour and you have the classic practice-jersey look in one decision.

Piping along the raglan seam or around the placket sharpens it further. If the jersey needs to match a full-button in the same range, we can cut it with set-in sleeves instead.

Three things to check on your sample

Pullovers go wrong in different places from button-fronts. When your sample arrives, check these before you approve bulk:

1. The neck opening. A two-button jersey has to go over the head. Try it on the smallest youth size in your run, not just a medium.
2. Pattern across the raglan seam. On sublimated designs, stripes and fades should meet cleanly where sleeve joins body.
3. Button colour against trim. Two buttons are small, but they sit right under the chin. Colour-matched looks quiet; contrast looks deliberate. Decide which you want.
